Endangered wildlife!

This incredible photo of a young Qinling golden snub-nosed monkey is one of the winners in this year’s Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.
The species is endangered with an estimated less than 4,000 left. The huddled up pose is the best way for the monkey to keep warm in the extreme cold when not near its mother.
An exhibition with all the winning photos opens at the Natural History Museum from tomorrow before going on tour.

Cupid snail’s arrow!

In the run up to Valentine’s day, why not get some inspiration for seduction techniques from wildlife…The Natural History Museum have a new exhibition on the art of Sexual Nature; from snails with their love darts to humming fish. The course of true love never runs smooth…especially if you’re the unfortunate insect bundled up in a ball of silk as a wooing present from the male dance fly to its mate.

Wildlife photographer of the year!

Last night, the Natural History Museum announced their Veolia Wildlife Photographer of the Year winners, including this amazing shot of leaf-cutter ants in a Costa Rican rainforest by Bence Mate.
This and more than 100 other incredible wildlife photographs will be in the exhibition that opens tomorrow, Friday 22nd, at the Natural History Museum, before going on tour. And if you can’t catch it near you, a book with all the winning shots will be available for £25.

Natural History Museum’s Darwin Centre!

Check out the modern Darwin Centre, part of London’s Natural History Museum. It’s an incredible state-of-the-art science and collections building with hundreds of specimens and the chance to watch science as it happens, as world-class scientists carry out their work in the laboratories. Plus, as it’s the museum, entry is free!

Face to face with giant squid…

The Natural History Museum is open late for a one-off night! Tour the dinosaurs by torchlight (I highly recommend this!), discover more about some of the museum’s more unusual exhibits and meet Archie, the museum’s famous giant squid (not the one above…Archie is pickled!)
Plus, a brilliant opportunity to bring in any specimens and let the NHM’s scientists guide you through how to identify them.
